Rainbirds (Song Sparrow, White-crowned Sparrow and Junco)

Medium:  Pastel

Size:  20 x 15 1/2

Price:  $1600

This painting is based on a cheerful scene I encountered one sunny day in March.  Moss is everywhere in western Oregon that time of year and the crocus were a welcome reminder that spring was approaching.  I think the sprinkler is pretty old but it still works and it was fun to paint!

Dowitchers in Spring

Medium:  Pastel

Size:  12 x 22

Price:  $1600

I believe these are Long-billed Dowitchers based on what I've read about identification on Cornell's website.  They have a bit of a humpback that is more visible from certain angles, when their heads are down.  Otherwise it can be difficult to determine. These birds were part of a large flock I saw in a nearby flooded pasture last spring.  They totally ignored me as I stood on the bank above them, enjoying the day and their company.

Varied Thrush, Moss and Maple

Medium: Pastel

Size:  20 1/2  x 24 1/2

Price:  SOLD

The Varied Thrush is still a common winter resident where I live near the Oregon Coast for which I am thankful for they are listed as "a common bird in steep decline". I love to hear their reedy call wafting through the mature forest surrounding my home and enjoy seeing them in berry bushes or on the ground seeking food beneath old leaves. This painting was juried into the 2023 Live Exhibit of Artists for Conservation.
