"Unseen"
8 x 8-in
watercolor
NFS
This was painted from a free reference provided by JLportraits on Instagram. I used two paints, Daniel Smith's Kyanite genuine (background only) and Shadow Violet. Because the shadow Violet has three different granulating pigments in it (a violet, an orange, and a green), the pigments will separate on the paper if it's wet enough and I was able to create warm zones versus cool zones within this painting. So even though it's a monotone painting, there feels like there's some chromatic depth to it.

"Venus as a Boy"

I had a lot of fun painting this one and there are several distinct layers and yet I was still able to retain the luminescence in his skin.

"Nancy for Mayor"
8 x 8.25-inch

This was a commission from the subject who was running for mayor in the small town where I live. I really feel like I captured Nancy's personality here and enjoy the local landmark in the background.
