Pastel on board

28x23” 7/c limited edition giclee artist’s proof #1 from original pastel

A candid personal portrait in pastel on rag paper of the artist's wife sewing. The work was once exhibited at a San Antonio gallery where it was purchased (unbenownst to Dan or his wife, Ellen), by Ellen's mother, where it was displayed until her passing many years later. It was willed to Ellen so it now resides in the artist's home so the original is not for sale, except as noted above.

“Cellist in Dm”

Pastel on tagboard

30”x36” (in 36x40” frame under glass)

Exhibited at National Pastel Exhibition

Inspired by a performance of the National Symphony in Washington during the fourth of July in 1976 this original Pastel on Rag Board portrait of the first chair cellist from quick sketch studies done during the performance. The original is 30x36" and signed in the lower corner Danal Terry PSA, with the early phonetic spelling that appears on much of his earlier works. Like others in the artist's music series the color palette used represents the key signature's tonality. Even in this early work done around 1978 the artist's fascination with waves of sound or light, enfuses the work with a sense of motion and energy in the pulsating waves of color in the background where much of the figure blends into the music itself inseparable as performer and performance blend in a visual harmony.

The work was accepted and exhibited at the 8th Annual Juried National Pastel Exhibition in NYC in 1983 and again in the one man show at Ichen Gardens Restaurant in Georgetown, TX in May and June of 2023.

“John Lennon”

Digital painting

32x23”

signed & dated artist’s proof on gallery wrapped canvas.

This moody portrait of Beatle John Lennon is a totally original work that was made by compositing digitally and literally scores of existing photographs of the musical genius.  The result is a photographic portrait different than any taken in his life. It's both photography and art combined to create something unique that captures much of his mystery and sardonic character.
